This is the third book that the painting artist Eli Smith has published with the publishing house undir Brúnni. Language : faroese. Teknið - nakað um tekning og annað ("dessiner - sur le dessin et autre"), c'est le titre du nouveau livre féroïen pour celui qui veut apprendre à dessiner ou qui cherche à approfondir ses connaissances autour de l'art du dessin et son histoire. Biografi: FØROYSKT :
Eli Smith er sjálvlærdur listamaður, sum er serstakliga "litríkur" í síni arbeiðandi skapanarmegi, ein, sum ikki letur hindringarnar órógva sítt hugflog og verk. Hansara orðatak ljóðar : "Færri møguleikar, størri hugflog", og hjá Eli er stutt ímillum dreym og veruleika. Í 1976 fór hann, við nýfingnum radiomekanikkaraprógvi, til skips . Hann fekst tá við fotografi í frítíðini, men tað var ikki fyrr enn í 1980, at maðurin byrjaði at svinga penslinum. Í 1982 var hann á listaháskúla í Holbæk, og síðani tá hevur hann gjørt námsferðir við skitsublokkinum, m.a. saman við teknaranum og svágrinum, Ólavi á Váli (sála). Eli hevur havt nógvar ymiskar framsýningar og listauppgávur, bæði einsamallur og saman við øðrum - altíð í ferð við okkurt nýtt og ongantíð fastlæstur í tí, sum farið er. Í einum trý ára tíðarskeiði (1994-97), fekst Eli mest við at tekna, og í hesum sambandi gav hann bók út við kvøldsangum (Sov blítt og søtt), við egnum tekningum og vatnlitsmyndum av sovandi og vaknum familjulimum. Eli er limur í felagnum Føroysk myndlistarfólk. Síðani 1999 arbeiðir hann sum fulltíðarlistamaður. Náttúran og Skaparverkið, fylla nógv í hjartanum hjá Eli, og hann er Gudi takksamur fyri hesa "gávu". Eli er giftur við Britu á Váli (1986), og saman eiga tey 4 børn : Napoleon 23, Líggjas 22, Anna 19 og Sigrun 12 ár. ENGLISH : Eli Smith is a self-taught faroese artist with a very "colorfull" working creativity, one, who does'nt let the obstacles come in the way of his imagination and work. His motto is : "Less options give bigger imagination", and in Eli's Atelier there is a very short distance between dream and reality. In 1976 as he finished his diploma of radiomecanics he went out on the sea with a fishing ship. During these years he worked with photography in his spare time, but it wasn't till 1980 that he started to paint. In 1982 he went to an art school in Denmark and since then he has made some travelling "pencil in hand" with his late collegue, his brother in law Ólavur á Váli. Eli has held a lot of exhibitions and has had a large number of art projects, alone as well as with others - always developping new ones and never sticking to the past. Within a periode of three years (1994-1997) Eli was drawing constantly, his family member (as they were asleep), at the same time he gathered lullaby songs and gave out a songbook, for which he won the faroese junior litterature price. This was his first published book, called "Sleep softly and sweet". Eli is a member of the "Society of Faroese Artists". Since 1999 Eli works as a full time artist. Mother Nature fills alot in the artist's heart, and he is thankfull to God for this "gift". Eli is married to Brita (1986) and togeher they have four children : Napoleon 23, Líggjas 22, Anna 19 and Sigrun 12 years old. In 2003, after a special experience in the nature, Eli developped his very own painting technic with colors that he finds in the faroese nature, just as the cave- and pyramid painters did thousands of years ago; besides these "faroese colors" he also draws and paints aquarels. Eli has worked with various arts, for example with mosaic. The last product from Eli's hand is a book about drawing for everyone, who wants to learn how to get started, and at the moment he is working towards nordic exhibitions with paintings made of the colors of our neighbouring countries as well. FRANÇAIS : Eli Smith est un artiste féroïen autodidacte avec une forte créativité "multicolore", il s'agit de quelqu'un qui ne laisse point les obstacles empêcher l'avancement de son imagination et travail. Son proverbe est : "Moins de possibilités donne une plus grande imagination", et dans l'atelier d'Eli la distance entre le rêve et la réalité est très courte. En 1976, à la sortie de sa formation de son diplôme de radiomécanique, Eli va avec un bateau de pêche. Durant ces années il pratique la photographie pendant ses loisirs, mais ce n'est qu'en 1980 qu'il commence à peindre. En 1982 il va à un école d'art au Danmark et depuis il fait des voyages fréquents, crayon et papier en main, ensemble avec feu son collègue de dessin et beau-frère, Ólavur á Váli. Eli a eu beaucoup d'expositions et projets d'art, bien seul qu'avec d'autres. Pendant une époque de 3 ans (1994-97) Eli était constamment en train de dessiner les membres de sa famille (souvent quand ces-derniers dormaient), et entretemps il récueuillait des chants berceuses; le resultat en était un recueil de chansons illustrée pour lequel Eli a gagné le prix de littérature pour enfant (nom du livre "Dors doucement et sucré"). Eli est membre de la société "Artistes féroïennes". Il travaille avec l'art à plein temps depuis 1999. La nature féroïenne a toujours une grande importance dans le coeur de l'artiste et il est reconnaissant à Dieu pour ce "cadeau". Eli est marié à Brita (1986) et ils ont quatre enfants ensemble : Napoléon 23, Líggjas 22 Anna 19 et Sigrun 12 ans. En 2003, après une expérience particulière au milieu de la nature, Eli a developpé une technique de peinture où il ne travaille qu'avec les couleurs qu'il trouve dans la nature féroïenne, de la même façon que les peintres des grottes et des pyramides milliers d'années auparavant. Il nomme ces couleurs "les couleurs féroïennes". Cependant il travaille occasionnellement avec des aquarelles et des dessins. Il a travaillé avec beaucoup de d'arts différent, notamment la mosaïque. Le dernier oeuvre de la main d'Eli est un livre de dessin, dédié à tous ceux qui veulent apprendre à dessiner, et en ce moment l'artiste travaille vers une exposition nordique où il va aussi travailler avec des couleurs des pays avoisants.
